MAN v FAT | Coaches App – Katie Ambrose

Context

With the aim to expand into international markets, MAN v FAT needed to simplify and improve their outdated back office system. This projected aimed to provide a mobile first web-app to be used by MAN v FAT Coaches on and off the football pitch to enter player data, calculate and publish scores and fixtures.

Led the product design and user research effort. Co-led refinement meetings with Product Owner to map technical feasibility, saw the product through delivery.

Focus Group

To kick off the project I hosted a focus group with 3 MAN v FAT Coaches. The purpose of the session was to understand three key points:

- How is a club night run?
- What are their pain points on the current system?
- what would they want from a new back office system?

Workshop

The insights from the focus group were analysed and brought to a product team workshop to start prioritising features and mapping out how the app could look.

Off the back of the research data we decided to prioritise improving Coach workflow and reducing human error, improving Coach and player interactions by displaying more player data and improving security by creating a mobile first application.

1-2-1 User Research

I met with 5 Coaches 1-2-1 to share with them the wireframes and get their thoughts and feedback. The key focus of the session was to get feedback on the proposed flow of entering in player data and scores and how this could affect their workflow. I also focused on the IA and interaction design.

The Final Designs

Following the 1-2-1 user research the user flow was adjusted to better align with how MAN v FAT Coaches run a blub night in order to improve their workflow. Player data was also displayed at the point of adding in player stats to aid conversations with players, and messaging was adjusted.
